Dr. Leevina N. Iyer na téma Europe and the Global South in the Age of Empire 

 

Course description:  

 This course examines European occupation and Western colonialism from the early modern period to the 21st century. It focuses on how imperial power was established, maintained, resisted and remembered. Particular attention is paid to the links between colonial practices within Europe and overseas, specifically the Global South. Students will critically engage with historical scholarship to understand the legacies of Empire and apply it to the contemporary world.

 Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

    Demonstrate a clear understanding of key concepts related to Empire, colonialism and occupation

    Critically analyse theories related to issues of power, victimisation and othering  

    Communicate complex historical arguments through written and oral form
