About University

Thousands of young people, both Czech and foreign students, meet at the modern campus of the University of Hradec Králové, a few steps from the historic centre. In addition to lecture halls, seminar and computer classrooms, there is a university library, script shop, art gallery but also relaxation zones, canteens, and other places to loosen up. The spectrum of educational activities includes the fields of economics, informatics, and management at the Faculty of Informatics and Management, teaching, artistic and linguistic disciplines at the Faculty of Education, natural sciences and engineering fields at the Faculty of Science, social sciences and humanities at the Philosophical Faculty.

UHK is a scientific institution that offers students participation in research grants and competitions. Thanks to the rich international links with institutions in more than 60 countries of North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe, university students can gain valuable professional and life experience during student mobilities for studies and traineeships abroad.

Rankings and the university

The University of Hradec Králové is working towards strengthening our position in international comparison. By virtue of our academics and other employees but also students, we all together managed to join the ranks of universities in prestigious rankings.

 

 

QS World University Rankings

The QS World University Rankings is considered one of the three most prestigious and trusted international comparisons that measure the quality of universities. In 2021, for the first time, UHK entered the main ranking. And for the year 2024 UHK was placed on the shared 1001–1200th position. In the Czech environment, UHK is currently at 11th place.

 

 

QS University Rankings: Europe & QS Eastern Europe 2024

A spatial ranking by the Quacquarelli Symonds Limited positioned UHK to the 398th place in Europe, that is 10th place among Czech universities. For Eastern Europe we are on the 39th place.

One of these is the Times Higher Education (THE). The complex evaluation methodology is based on 13 indicators representing teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. The flagship analysis by THE is the World ranking, a trusted international ranking that evaluates universities around the world, and for 2024, the UHK keeps the fair joined 1201–1500 position, among Czech universities, we ranked 9th!

THE BY SUBJECT: computer science

World University Rankings by subject: computer science highlights universities that excel in the following fields: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry. In 2024, we ranked as the 4th Czech university in the shared 601st–800th place.

THE BY SUBJECT: physical Science

THE WUR ranking by subject: Physical Science highlights the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: mathematics and statistics, physics and astronomy, chemistry, geology, environmental sciences, and earth and marine sciences. The UHK placed at the collective 1001+ position for the year 2024.

THE BY SUBJECT: life sciences

THE WUR ranking by subject: life sciences placed UHK at the 601st–800th position worldwide and ranked 6th in the Czech Republic.

THE Young Universities

This ranking includes the world's top universities aged 50 years and under. The methodology reflects the special characteristics of younger universities, giving less weight to subjective indicators of academic reputation. The universities are judged across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available. In 2022 the UHK was ranked 400+ internationally.

THE Emerging Economies

The Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022 includes only institutions in countries classified by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” or “frontier”. UHK was ranked 401–500th internationally.

ShanghaiRankingShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects: Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences

The international ranking has existed since 2017, this year (2022) 10 Czech universities made it among 1800 evaluated higher education institutions.

The evaluation takes place in a total of 54 fields, concentrated in five areas: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. The University of Hradec Králové was ranked together with Masaryk University in the field of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences in the shared 401-500th place.

UI Green Metric

Our university is also regularly ranked in the UI Green Metric ranking. For the year 2022, we are in 582nd place in the world and 5th place within the Czech Republic. The ranking informs about the efforts of individual universities to be ecologically sustainable institutions and is based on the evaluation of several criteria: education and research related to the environment, infrastructure, consumption and saving of energy, water, waste management, and others.
