Sustainability is one of the pillars of the future development of the University of Hradec Králové. Our goals are intertwined with the promotion of a friendly and healthy environment in academia. This is affirmed by the 2023 UI GreenMetric Worl University Rankings.

The University of Hradec Králové has demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, as evidenced by its rise in the 2023 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, where it now ranks 486th, nearly 100 places better than last year. This year, 1183 universities participated worldwide, and the UHK was positioned at 5th place among Czech universities. This improvement is part of a broader trend in the Czech Republic, where most universities have enhanced their standings in environmental sustainability.

Our university stands among the top 40% globally. I consider this a great success for all of our students and employees. This clearly manifests our dedication to working together for a greener future.

The university has excelled particularly in waste management, showcasing effective recycling and waste reduction strategies. It also performs well in transportation, infrastructure, and energy and climate change initiatives, reflecting its efforts in promoting sustainable transport, developing green campus infrastructure, and employing energy-efficient practices. However, water management remains an area for improvement. Despite that, the university's overall progress in the UI GreenMetric ranking highlights its dedication to reducing its environmental impact and enhancing sustainability in higher education and the academic environment.
