University Library for Doctoral Students
The University Library provides considerably more than standard lending services. In addition to access to books and study materials, the library offers specialised support relating to dissertation preparation, academic publishing, literature searches, and research activities. During doctoral studies, additional questions and research needs often arise, and the library staff can assist students in locating relevant resources, including materials obtained from abroad.
Library Services and Facilities
The library provides standard lending and advisory services in on the ground floor of Building A and at the Lesák Library in Building B. Additional smaller libraries include the branch library of the Department of Visual Culture and Textile Design, and reference libraries maintained by individual departments.
Interlibrary Loan Services
If a required publication is not available within the university collections, students may use the Interlibrary Loan Service (MVS) or the International Interlibrary Loan Service (MMVS). The contact person for these services is Michaela Flašarová, DiS. (michaela.flasarova@uhk.cz).
Literature Searches
The library also offers specialised literature searches on selected research topics. This service is subject to a fee; a literature search prepared for dissertation purposes currently costs CZK 200.

Electronic Information Resources
Through the CzechELib consortium partnership (NCIP), the UHK subscribes to a wide range of electronic information resources recognised by the international academic community.
- Bibliometric Databases provide indicators of scientific impact, research performance, and citation analysis. These databases allow users to identify highly cited authors (H-Index), journal rankings (Journal Impact Factor in WoS database or SCImago Journal Rank in Scopus), institutional performance, and influential conferences within specific disciplines. The main bibliometric databases available at UHK are Web of Science and Scopus.
- Full-text databases provide access to scholarly journals, books, periodicals, datasets, patents, graphs, images, videos, records, and additional academic materials. The content of these databases is academically verified through peer-review processes. Modern databases also offer advanced tools for searching and filtering content, downloading and sharing materials, citation management, identifying related publications, and, in some cases, AI-assisted research support based exclusively on verified academic sources. The principal databases accessible at UHK include ACM Digital Library (computer science), SpringerLink (multidisciplinary), De Gruyter (multidisciplinary), JSTOR (humanities), SAGE Journals (humanities and social sciences), ScienceDirect (natural sciences), Taylor & Francis Online (humanities, social sciences, and mathematics), and Wiley Online Library (multidisciplinary).

Electronic resources may be accessed through the UHK network (IP address, eduroam, VPN) or institutional login via Shibboleth. Citations and Citation Management
Citation generation tools are available directly within academic databases, library catalogues, and through platforms such as Citace.com. For long-term research projects, such as dissertations, and for the systematic management and storage of academic sources, it is strongly recommended to use a citation manager. Citation managers are available as online services, desktop applications, or browser plugins, and their basic versions are generally free of charge. Recommended citation managers include: Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote.

DOI (Digital Object Identifier)
A DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a permanent identifier assigned to digital objects, most commonly academic articles and books. If a cited source has an assigned DOI, it should always be included in the reference list. Conversely, if a newly created academic output requires DOI registration, the UHK provides support through its membership in Crossref.
