Recognition of Foreign Education
Applicants must also provide a recognition of previous education if completed outside of the Czech Republic.
a) Recognition of Foreign Education for Applicants to Study at UHK
- Recognition of foreign secondary and higher education within the admissions procedure – intended exclusively for applicants applying to study at the University of Hradec Králové (UHK).
- This assessment of prior education is valid solely for the purposes of the admissions procedure at UHK.
- Foreign education is assessed by the faculty to which the applicant applies.
Documents Proving Previous Education
Further information, including contacts and deadlines for submitting documents related to previous foreign education, can be found on the pages of the respective study programmes:
UHK Study Programmes in English
b) Recognition of Foreign Higher Education (General “Nostrification”)
All applicants are hereby informed that an application for the recognition of foreign higher education and qualifications in the Czech Republic must be submitted to the rectorate of a public university, in this case the University of Hradec Králové.
Before submitting an application for the recognition of foreign education, applicants are advised to verify whether the public university offers at least one study programme falling within the field of education to which the foreign study programme can be assigned.
Legal Regulations Governing Recognition in the Czech Republic
- Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to Other Acts
- Act No. 71/1967 Coll., on Administrative Proceedings (Administrative Code), replaced as of January 2006 by Act No. 500/2004 Coll.
- International treaties binding on the Czech Republic (bilateral international agreements on mutual recognition of the equivalence of educational documents)
- Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region (the Lisbon Recognition Convention)
University diplomas issued in the Slovak Republic are valid in the territory of the Czech Republic without any further official verification (recognition). In the case of Slovak diplomas, no decision or certificate of equivalence is issued.
Foreign university diplomas issued by one of the countries of the former Soviet Union between 6 June 1972 and 27 February 2000 are automatically considered equivalent to Czech diplomas. Their holders may therefore use them in the territory of the Czech Republic without the need to apply for general recognition of foreign higher education obtained during this period. Holders of these diplomas are only required to present an officially certified copy of the educational document together with an official translation into the Czech language and with reference to the “Protocol on the Equivalence of Documents on Education, Academic Degrees and Titles Issued or Awarded in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics” (signed on 6 June 1972 in Prague, published in Czech under No. 123/1973 Coll.).
