Wireless connection - eduroam

Wi-Fi network of UHK is connected to the international project eduroam. The project is under the umbrella of CESNET within the Czech Republic. This project allows users to connect to the Wi-Fi network across all institutions participating in the project. For specific connection options outside UHK, consult the specific organization's website, which can be found in the list of connected institutions.

Connection to the Eduroam network is also available at Hradec Králové Main Railway Station. It is prepared for the coverage of other stations and other locations. A current list is always available on the coverage map.

Client Devices Setting up

Automatic configuration for selected systems can be done using Eduroam CAT (Configuration Assistant Tool). For mobile devices with a newer operating system, automatic configuration can only be done using the geteduroam.

A manual configuration that consists of two steps can be an alternative. First, you have to import Digicert CA certificates among trusted CAs if they are not already installed in your operating system. The certificate (USERTrust RSA Certification Authority) is available for download at this link. Failure to do so may expose you to the security risk of misuse of login information. The second step is to configure the connection to the Wi-Fi network. The instructions below will help you with the configuration. You also need to have a screen lock set, otherwise the certificate will not be set up.

Manual configuration parameters:
Radius servers of UHK: radius1.uhk.cz; radius2.uhk.cz

Security type: WPA2-Enterprise

Encryption type: AES

Authentication method: PEAP - EAP-MSCHAP v2

To verify, enter the username in the form user_name@uhk.cz (attention, it is not an email) and a valid password for the given user account (same as the password for the study system).

Instructions at www.eduroam.cz

It is possible to connect up to 3 devices per login name at eduroam Wi-Fi access points operated under UHK.

Most Common Connectivity Problems

Wrong password - verify the functionality of your password, for example by logging in the intranet at https://www.uhk.cz/cs-CZ/UHK

Eduroam disconnects itself after a while and you need to re-enter your login information.

This behaviour may be caused by a poor signal or a bad Wi-Fi card driver. Reinstall the driver or change the inappropriate settings of the driver. (In the case of the driver settings, it is not possible to recommend a specific configuration as the individual drivers greatly differ in the setting options.

Unable to connect or connection dropped

Some access points (especially those located in study rooms/libraries) may be overloaded during peak hours, which may result in the loss of connection.

General advice - if anything goes wrong:

  • Try removing the Eduroam network and start setting up again,
    • Windows 10 - Click Start and select Settings. Click Networks and the Internet from the following menu. Then click Wi-Fi and "manage known networks". Click Eduroam from the menu that appears and select Remove from the pop-up menu. Then configure again.
  • Disable and enable Wi-Fi, most devices have a control button for it,
  • Restart your computer,
  • Create a new profile and try to configure the connection in it.
