Access Control System

Every student and employee of the University of Hradec Králové (UHK) is expected to hold a university identification card. Up-to-date and comprehensive information about the use of ID cards can be found in the Identification Cards section under the UHK Service Centre.

To use your identification card, it must be valid and active.

The following conditions must be met:

  • Valid affiliation with UHK: Students must be enrolled in an active study programme. Employees must have an employment contract or an agreement to perform work (DPČ) registered with the Human Resources and Payroll Department.

  • Active identification card: Your card is activated when issued and remains active unless you block it through the university portal or report it lost. You can check the status of your card on your personal university account page.

  • Valid identification card: Employee cards remain valid throughout their employment. Student cards must be renewed annually using a validation sticker. The card's expiry date is indicated on the card and extended by applying a new sticker.

If you meet all these conditions, you can use your identification card. Otherwise, please contact the UHK Service Centre for further assistance.

Access Control System Locations

The University of Hradec Králové uses an electronic access control system to enhance the security of university buildings, protect university property, and manage access permissions for students and employees.

The access control system is installed in buildings belonging to all four faculties: the Faculty of Informatics and Management (FIM), Faculty of Science (PřF), Faculty of Arts (FF), and Faculty of Education (PdF). It is also used in other university facilities, including student dormitories, the University Library, and the Common Teaching Building.

The extent of implementation varies depending on the nature of individual buildings and their operational requirements. The system enables centralised management of access permissions and contributes to the safe and efficient operation of university facilities.

The system also includes access management for selected university car parks.

How to Use the System

To open a barrier, door lock, or lectern containing technical equipment, simply hold your identification card against the card reader.

If an audible signal is heard and the green indicator flashes, the card has been successfully read and the information has been transmitted to the control unit. The system then checks whether the cardholder has the necessary access permissions.

If access is authorised, the lock is released for several seconds. Otherwise, the lock remains closed. Some card readers also indicate denied access by flashing a red light.

If the reader does not respond when you present your card, either the reader or the card may be faulty. Try another card. If the reader does not respond to that card either, contact the building administrator and specify the location of the faulty reader.

If your card is not working, contact the UHK Service Centre, where staff can check its functionality and arrange a replacement if necessary.

In non-computer classrooms at FIM and the Faculty of Science, a special access mode is used. Initially, only the lecturer can enter an empty classroom. Once the lecturer presents their card to the reader at the lectern, other cardholders can enter, including holders of cards not issued by UHK.

Access Zones and Permissions

Each cardholder is assigned to one or more access permission groups. These may include, for example, FIM Employees, Faculty of Education Students, UHK Students, or External Library Users.

Each access zone is configured to allow entry to specific permission groups. For example, access to student dormitories is restricted to dormitory employees and students accommodated there. All students and employees are authorised to enter the central car park at Na Soutoku.

Access group assignments are updated after midnight, when various university information systems (student information systems, personnel systems, dormitory management systems, card management systems, etc.) send information about users and identification cards to the identity management system.

The identity management system evaluates this information, assigns users to the appropriate groups, and forwards the updated permissions to the access control system.

For example, if you move into a student dormitory, your identification card will normally become valid for dormitory access the following morning.

If your card does not grant access to an area you are authorised to enter, please contact the building reception or the UHK Service Centre. Staff can check your assigned permission groups and advise you on the steps required to obtain additional access.

Reception staff in Buildings J and S can also configure individual access exceptions where necessary, for example, to allow a member of the Student Chamber of the Academic Senate to enter classrooms for student presentations.
