University Sports Afternoon

University Sports Afternoon is a social-sport event meant for all students and employees of the UHK.

Homo academicus – an educated person, as is well known, needs a healthy mind and a healthy body.

University Sports Afternoon promotes healthy living as well as a vigorous community. Each year you get a chance to try out new and less-known sports, chat with friends and familiar strangers, taste the UHK beer – UHK Mech, and enjoy an active afternoon outside of the classrooms.

The event culminates in a traditional running competition! University Sports Afternoon and Academic run 2023 take place on April 25. A part of the collected entry fees is going to be donated by the UHK to a charity. Individual prizes in the race for 2.2 and 5 km will be accompanied by the UHK Rector's Cup competition – the faculty with the largest running participation (the number of runners per faculty in relation to the total number of students at the faculty) wins.

History

Last year, we were able to organize the event in full again. One-third of the collected entry fees (8209 CZK) from the Academic run went to People in need and their Ukraine relief fund. Around 350 runners participated in the competition.

In 2020, the pandemic prevented us from holding our traditional sporting event. Last year we mustered courage and decided to at least remotely support the local charity. At the beginning of May 2021, the UHK USO Challenge with BATIST Medical took place. Our students and staff have made together (albeit separately) an incredible 23 million steps and, in cooperation with a local company from Červený Kostelec producing hygienic aids, contributed to collecting 50 000 CZK for disadvantaged children.

At the University Sports Afternoon in April 2019, you could try a number of non-traditional sports and compete for prizes. Snacks and beer were also prepared. The afternoon culminated with a traditional Academic run – a contest of faculties for the Rector's Cup.
