University of Hradec Králové defended its position in the prestigious international university rankings

According to the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2021, the University of Hradec Kralove confirms its stable position among highly qualified universities in the world. Together with five other Czech universities, once again we are proving that the open-minded direction towards students and the production of relevant science is the right one. The UHK has been upholding its stable position within the Czech competition and as the only Czech institution has not fallen down within the rankings.

"The UHK has been recently evaluated by the QS World University Rankings and placed within the best 1000 institutions in the world. Now the UHK has followed another success. Our institution retained its last year's shared 351-400th position in THE Young University Rankings 2021, meaning the institutions that were established in the recent past.  Considering the complex methodology, which includes a number of criteria as well as public opinion survey, I consider this as a great success. I praise all our students and employees for moving the university forward together," comments Kamil Kuča, Rector of the University of Hradec Králové.

The mentioned methodology is based on the evaluation of universities in five categories. Teaching (e.g. the ratio of the number of students to academics or the share of doctoral students in the total number of students), research (productivity and relevance of outputs) and citations (research impact) contribute equally to the final grade. The other two criteria are international outlook and industry income (knowledge transfer).

"In addition to hard data, small things also play a role in the ranking of individual universities. Our never-ending effort to improve is bearing the desired 'academic fruits', among other things it might be visible by the recently institutionalized international cooperation with universities in Slovakia and Spain for the development of knowledge transfer," says Leona Stašová, Vice-Rector for International Relations at the University of Hradec Králové.

The Czech Republic is, according to the number of universities placed in the ranking, ahead of Austria, Sweden, Russia and the USA. UHK has long been promoting the credo of Rector Kamil Kuča: “We are a regional university with global ambitions.” The current success can be added to the past ones and there is no doubt the UHK is eligible to be proudly classified as the biggest higher institution in the Hradec Králové Region.
