UHK Summer Schools 2026: A Hub for International Learning and Cultural Exchange
During the summer of 2026, the University of Hradec Králové once again welcomed students from around the world to its international Summer Schools. Across UHK’s faculties, participants had the opportunity to expand their academic knowledge, gain practical experience, discover Czech culture and build new international friendships.
Faculty of Science
This summer, the Faculty of Science at UHK once again welcomed international students to its Summer School, held from 12 July to 12 August 2026. Participants could choose from three programmes – Mathematical Physics, Applied Biology and Toxicology – combining lectures with practical training and research activities.
Students of Mathematical Physics explored topics ranging from geometry and quantum graphs to black holes. Participants in Applied Biology focused on biodiversity, microscopy and fieldwork, while the Toxicology programme introduced students to toxins, poisoning and laboratory methods. Among this year’s participants was also a Mathematical Physics student who returned to Hradec Králové for the second consecutive year after taking part in the Summer School in 2025.
Faculty of Education
The Faculty of Education welcomed more than 60 students from South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China for an intensive five-week International Summer School combining academic study, creative activities and cultural experiences. The core programme included courses in Czech language, culture and music, giving participants the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s history and traditions.
Students also took part in a wide range of creative workshops, including printmaking, animation, artistic intervention, plein-air art and art therapy. As part of their introduction to traditional Czech craftsmanship, they made their own sewn-on button and decorated a hat to take home as a unique souvenir of their stay.
Faculty of Informatics and Management
During July and August, the Faculty of Informatics and Management at the University of Hradec Králové hosted the international summer school Czech IT Out 2026. The programme welcomed a total of 85 students from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the United States, Malaysia and Morocco.
Participants followed an intensive academic programme and completed courses in Intercultural Studies and Tourism, Marketing and Cultural Studies, Languages and Culture, and Data Science. The Summer School provided an international learning environment in which students could broaden their academic knowledge while exchanging ideas and experiences with participants from different cultural backgrounds.
Philosophical Faculty
Over the course of two weeks, students from Namibia, Mexico, South Africa, Bolivia and Colombia had the opportunity not only to learn Czech but also to experience the country beyond the classroom.
The Summer School at the Philosophical Faculty introduced participants to the Czech language, culture and everyday traditions while offering plenty of opportunities to discover Hradec Králové and its history. As part of the programme, students visited some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the White Tower, the Museum of East Bohemia and the Gallery of Modern Art.
A diverse programme of excursions and leisure activities across UHK’s Summer Schools also allowed participants to explore Hradec Králové and some of the Czech Republic’s most remarkable historical and cultural sites. Along the way, students built international friendships, exchanged perspectives and experienced Czech culture first-hand.
