UHK Strengthens Partnerships in Taiwan: Visits to Local Institutions Open New Opportunities for Students and Academics
The University of Hradec Králové (UHK) continues to develop its strategic partnerships in Asia. During a visit to Taiwan in early July, UHK representatives visited several prominent universities, most notably the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), also known as TaiwanTech, and discussed further opportunities for cooperation in education, research, and student and academic mobility.
A significant part of the programme was dedicated to NTUST, with which the Faculty of Informatics and Management (FIM UHK) maintains an active partnership. Meetings were held primarily with Professor Cathy Weng and focused on supporting student and academic exchanges, preparing the upcoming stay of FIM doctoral students in Taiwan, and planning a visit by NTUST representatives to the Czech Republic. Discussions also explored new opportunities for collaboration and the expansion of joint activities between the two institutions.
The visit also included meetings with local and international students studying at NTUST. Participants were introduced to study opportunities at the University of Hradec Králové and the Faculty of Informatics and Management, as well as scholarship programmes and options for both short-term and long-term mobility. These discussions confirmed the growing interest of students from the Asian region in studying in the Czech Republic.
The programme further included visits to two other prestigious Taiwanese universities – National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and National Chengchi University (NCCU). At both institutions, representatives of the international offices discussed the development of partnerships and explored new avenues for cooperation. One particularly interesting part of the visit to NCCU was a tour of its Czech language classroom, demonstrating the long-standing interest of Taiwanese students in the Czech language and culture.
Another highlight was participation in a professional workshop focused on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and the use of virtual reality in education. Innovative teaching approaches and the integration of digital technologies are areas in which Taiwanese universities are among the global leaders. The exchange of experience and best practices provided valuable inspiration for the further development of innovative teaching methods at UHK.
The visit also reaffirmed that Taiwanese partners view the University of Hradec Králové as a respected European institution and are keen to further expand mutual cooperation. In addition to student and staff mobility, there is growing potential for joint educational activities, research projects, and future summer schools.
Taiwan therefore remains one of UHK’s key partners in Asia and an important destination for the university’s international cooperation efforts.
