The University of Hradec Králové (UHK) joined 17 other Czech universities on an academic mission organized by the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research (DZS) under the Study in Czechia initiative. The delegation visited both Taiwan and Japan, engaging in a series of expert meetings, presentations, and networking events, including the presentation of Czech universities at EXPO2025 in Osaka. The mission’s main goal was to foster international collaboration and showcase Czech higher education as open, high-quality, and ready to meet global challenges.

In Taiwan, 17 Czech universities held meetings with more than 50 local institutions and partners. UHK participated in university visits and one-on-one discussions with leading institutions such as National Pingtung University, National Dong Hwa University, National Changhua University of Education, and National Taipei University of Education. Meetings also explored potential collaboration and shared areas of interest with many other universities. Taiwanese institutions showed exceptional interest in cooperation, highlighting strong potential for expanding student mobility and joint efforts in science, research, and creative activities.

In Japan, university representatives attended Czech National Day and Edu Day at EXPO2025, visited Kansai University, and held talks with both prospective and established partners – including Kochi University of Technology and Nagoya University of Foreign Studies. A notable highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Shimonoseki City University, represented by President Chang-wan Han. The Japanese delegation plans a return visit in October 2025. During a ceremonial reception, Czech university representatives also had the opportunity to meet with the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel.

“This mission not only reinforced our existing relationships but also opened new pathways for long-term academic cooperation. Asia is a strategic partner for UHK, and we are seeing steady growth in student mobility and collaborative research projects in the region,” said Leona Stašová, UHK Vice-Rector for International Affairs, who represented the university on the mission together with Vice-Rector for Strategy, Development and Digitalization, Michal Strobach.
