THE World University Rankings 2027: UHK Moves Up and Enters the World’s Top 1 000 Universities
The University of Hradec Králové has made significant progress in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR), confirming its growing international standing. In this year’s edition, UHK has been ranked in the 801–1000 band, up from the 1001–1200 band last year. This places UHK among the four highest-ranked Czech universities out of a total of 18 Czech institutions included in the rankings.
THE World University Rankings are among the world’s most respected global university rankings. Universities are assessed across a range of indicators, with a particular focus on teaching (29.5%), research quality (30%), research environment (29%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry engagement and knowledge transfer (4%).
UHK ranked in the 801–1000 range in the THE World University Rankings 2027 primarily due to continuous improvement in the area of Research Quality, which is the most important pillar of the THE ranking with a weight of 30%. UHK’s score rose from 52.9 in 2025 to 69.1 in this category in 2027. The University’s gradual growth in the areas of Research Environment and Knowledge Transfer also had a positive impact, while the International Environment remains a long-term strength of the university,
Three Czech universities regularly rank among the world’s top 1 000: Charles University, Masaryk University, and the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU). This year, they are joined by the University of Hradec Králové.

These results confirm that UHK’s long-term strategy, focusing on developing international cooperation, supporting high-quality research, and strengthening research excellence, is delivering measurable results. At the same time, the University continues to systematically enhance its research performance and international competitiveness. This progress is reflected not only in its ranking but also in the growing quality of academic and research activities at UHK.
A total of 2 297 universities from around the world are ranked in the 2027 edition, compared with 2 191 institutions in the previous year. The growing number of participating universities increases the level of competition and further underlines the significance of UHK’s achievement.
It is highly motivating to see the collective efforts of the entire University recognised in such a respected international ranking. This result confirms that a regional university can achieve significant progress in research and innovation and compete successfully on the international stage. It is equally important to us that we can contribute to enhancing the quality of Czech higher education,
