The complete reconstruction of the Mileta intersection begins. It will significantly limit the traffic serviceability of the university campus

On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the complete reconstruction of the Mileta intersection in the center of Hradec Králové will commence. The main investors are the Road and Motorway Directorate, the city of Hradec Králové, and the Hradec Králové Region. The project will proceed in three phases, during which passage through the intersection will be variably restricted according to the progress of the construction work. These will last until the end of 2026 and will significantly limit the traffic serviceability of the Na Soutoku campus.

"This practically means that there will be a partial closure of Hradecká Street, which connects the Mileta intersection with the inner Hradec circuit in the section up to Akademika Heyrovského Street, making it impossible to use the standard entrance to the UHK parking lot," warns UHK Bursar Aleš Klicnar, adding that the only possible alternative will be entrance to the UHK premises through the gate from the Research Library, which will be temporarily accessible to our users, including contractual entities, through their badges or parking cards, and continues: "Inside the campus, there will be internal traffic signs directing employees, and students to the left towards the large parking lots via the communication under the entrance stairs to the building A." Crucial for the smooth operation within the campus will be the fact that the communication under the stairs will be two-way with no stopping and no pedestrian entry allowed.

To increase safety within the campus, students will not be allowed to drive to the buildings of the Faculty of Informatics and Management UHK (FIM UHK) and the Faculty of Science UHK (PřF UHK). Access by car to these buildings will only be allowed for UHK employees with special permission.

"Entry for delivery services will not be restricted. However, the same rules of no entry to the FIM UHK, PřF UHK buildings, and Václav Havel Square will apply to them. Therefore, we recommend picking up packages in the parking lot area. In the future, we are considering establishing a so-called PickUp point, where students and UHK employees can pick up their orders," adds Bursar Klicnar.

Pedestrians and cyclists will also face restrictions. The city website dedicated to this massive investment activity maps how and in what phases the reconstruction will proceed. Due to traffic restrictions, please exercise increased caution when moving around the campus and be considerate of others.
