Science is the language through which the universe speaks to us – and this year, we will learn to listen. Discover how plants, machines and we ourselves communicate. And because science needs to be heard, this year’s theme is Communication. There are plenty of activities to enjoy!
Several institutions in Hradec Králové will come alive with science on 25 September at 3 p.m. The University of Hradec Králové opens its doors for the traditional Researchers’ Night. Dive into the world of research through workshops, competitions, science shows, and lectures for all ages.
Programme Highlights
Decode the message ((17:00–22:00, room B8, building B, nám. Svobody 331/2)
Become a communication detective! Choose a card and try to guess what the sentence really means — based on tone, culture, or situation. You'll discover that the same words can have completely different meanings than they seem. A quick, clever, and surprisingly fun activity for kids, teens, and adults.
Chemical dialogue (17:00–22:00, room S46, building S, Hradecká 1227/4)
Molecules are constantly sending out invisible signals. Some wait for the exact right moment, others react to the slightest movement, and still others hide messages that you can only see under UV light. Discover the secret language of chemical reactions and decipher the code that’s hiding right before your eyes! Event times: 17:00-19:00; 20:00-22:00
Do We Understand Each Other? Human × AI (17:00–22:00, room J6, building J, Hradecká 1227/4)
How well do we really understand artificial intelligence — and how well does it understand us? We will explore how the way a question is asked, the previous conversation, or a hidden instruction can influence an AI response. We will compare a small local model with an advanced cloud-based AI and see what AI can answer, when it needs up-to-date information, and when it cannot or should not respond. Interactive experiments with voice, text, and different AI models will show that communication depends not only on what we say, but also on whom we say it to, how we say it, and in what context.
Hidden Signals Of The World (17:00–21:00, building A, room A312, A313, Hradecká 1227/4)
The world around us is full of secret codes, frequencies and signals. Nature is constantly talking to itself, but human senses are often not enough to capture these messages. And what about our own human communication? In today's overwhelmed world, can we still perceive the right signals at all, or is our inner peace threatened by invisible smog? Enter the advanced communication laboratory and become analysts tasked with deciphering hidden codes. Three challenging tests await you, where you will have to involve unconventional technologies, logical thinking, agility and teamwork. The program offers two levels of difficulty. Can you correctly break through the noise, read the signals of the environment and find the key to open the final box?
Fashion show (19:00-19:30, in front of Galery T, building A, Hradecká 1227/4)
Let´s visit stylish fashion night—this fashion show will showcase the precise craftsmanship behind the graphic prints on a collection of original scarves, but most importantly, it will present the students’ extensive semester-long project: the handcrafted production of hats and fascinators. The show will offer a comprehensive look at the creative process and the final works of our talented students.
