Language MeetUp: Come and practice speaking a foreign language

Date of Event: 05/12/2026 10:00–15:00

  • 10:00–12:00 for school groups
    13:00–15:00 for the general public

The Research Library in Hradec Králové will host the first edition of the Language MeetUp on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Take the opportunity to practise foreign languages in a short and engaging way, perhaps on your way from work or while visiting the library. During the speak-dating sessions, participants can spend a few minutes with representatives of different countries, converse in their languages, or learn a few basic phrases.

Nine languages will be available, including French, Italian, English, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Spanish, Chinese, as well as less commonly taught languages such as Burmese and Zulu. The event will take place in the courtyard of the Research Library and is open to all interested participants, including students and the wider public.

Held on the occasion of Europe Day, the event offers an opportunity to explore both European and non-European languages through short conversations with native speakers, primarily international students of the University of Hradec Králové. The programme will also feature country presentations at thematic stands, along with interactive language activities and other engaging formats.

The main aim of the event is to promote linguistic diversity, multilingualism, and mutual understanding across cultures.

This year’s edition is organised in cooperation with the University of Hradec Králové and the Eurocentre Hradec Králové, with the participation of additional partners.
