FameLab Czech Republic 2023

Do you want to become a star in the scientific sky and shine at one of the oldest international science competitions? The FameLab is just for you!

 

FameLab competition was developed in 2004 by Cheltenham Festivals in an effort to find new science communicators with participating countries ranging from Hong Kong to South Africa and the Czech Republic. It was introduce in the Czech Republic in 2011 by the British Council and hundreds of bright young scientists from universities across the country have participated.

Since 2022 Fame Lab is realized by Charles University.

Eligibility

  • You must be working or studying in the field of natural sciences, technology, medicine, mathematics or humanities
  • You must be over 21 years old
  • You must study or work at a Czech-based university or research institution
  • attend a MASTERCLASS training

Talk

  • Your talk must not be longer than 3 minutes
  • Your talk must be on a scientific subject and scientifically correct
  • You cannot use a projector (i.e. electronic presentations, videos, etc.)
  • You must carry any props on and off stage by yourself and they must be safe

By sending a video to the address famelab@cuni.cz by May 31, 2023, you enter the preliminary round, where an expert jury will select the 10 best based on criteria (content, clarity and charisma). These 10 best receive the prestigious MASTERCLASS training and then measure their strength in the national final at the end of September in Prague. The winner advances to the best of the participating countries. The content of your video and the competition performance do not have to be identical, but should be on the same topic.
