The University of Hradec Králové (UHK) proudly joined other Czech educational institutions that motivate and support students from Belarus with scholarships. They often flee Belarus in fear of the regime and come to study in the Czech Republic.

“The University of Hradec Králové condemned the violence against Belarus citizens immediately upon the repressions of the arguably elected President Lukashenko’s regime, including the harassment of the members of academic staff at Belarusian universities. They are invited to study at the UHK,” Kamil Kuča, the UHK Rector, comments on the situation and on the announcement of the new programme. The study offer applies to a number of areas across all the faculties.

“Belarusian students who are interested in studying at the UHK can receive a monthly scholarship in the amount of 10 to 15 thousand Czech crowns in relation to the selected study programme,” Leona Stašová, the UHK Vice-Rector for International Relations, continues, stating that the study programmes are available both in Czech and English language. Belarusians may submit their applications until the end of March 2021 and in addition to the scholarship, they can also apply for a study support, such as Czech language courses, or the services of the UHK information, consulting and career centre. “We are expecting our Belarusian colleagues to start in September this year,” Stašová adds.

Students from Belarus are quite common at the University of Hradec Králové. There are currently eleven of them at the UHK. “Belarusian students are grateful, capable and diligent and we have had a great experience with them. It is common that they start with the first term in English, quickly learn Czech and finish their studies in Czech. Liya Ubilava is one of the accomplished Belarusian students at the UHK. She is actively involved in the ESN Hradec Králové association and helps incoming foreign students adapt in the Czech Republic,” Vice-Rector Leona Stašová concludes.
