Matriculation
Matriculation Ceremony at FIM
Matriculation is a ceremonial event closely associated with the commencement of students’ studies in the first year of university. This ceremony marks an important moment for students enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Follow-up Master’s, or Doctoral study programme. During the ceremony, students pledge to fulfil their academic duties properly while respecting their commitment to the university, its regulations, and the decisions of academic officials.
Although a person officially becomes a student and a member of the academic community upon enrolment at the university or the respective faculty, matriculation represents a formal and symbolic entry into the academic world. It comes with the student’s obligation to respect traditions, uphold dignity, and promote the good name of the university.
As part of the matriculation ceremony, students take a formal matriculation oath. The ceremony is attended by academic officials of the university and the faculty, who wear academic gowns adorned with insignia representing the university’s symbols. The entire event is accompanied by ceremonial music, and the officials are addressed with honorary titles. During the ceremony, the student anthem Gaudeamus igitur is also performed, symbolizing the preservation of academic traditions.
The matriculation ceremony takes place at the University of Hradec Králové in the Assembly Hall of the Common Education Building (Building A), Hradecká 1227, Hradec Králové. The ceremony is open to the public.
Matriculation is intended for students enrolled in the first year of Bachelor’s, Follow-up Master’s, and Doctoral study programmes. It is held at the beginning of the new academic year, typically in mid-October. The exact date of the matriculation ceremony is listed in the Academic Year Schedule.
