Results of the Open Science Award 2025

The University of Hradec Králové has announced the results of this year’s Open Science Award, which recognises outstanding examples of open, transparent, and responsible research practice. The evaluation committee assessed the submissions based on the level and quality of openness, the impact and added value of open outputs, the originality of the approach, and long-term sustainability.

The awards were granted to:

1st place – Prof. Ing. Ondřej Krejcar, Ph.D., MPA

Improving Internet of Vehicles Research: A Systematic Preprocessing Framework for the VeReMi Dataset and the Release of a FAIR Data Set

The first prize was awarded to a project that represents a technically precise and internationally relevant example of open science. The activity consists of making a high-quality, well-documented FAIR data set openly available, accompanied by an Open Access publication. The project significantly increases transparency and reusability of research in the field of Internet of Vehicles security while removing practical barriers that have so far limited broader use of existing data. The committee particularly appreciated the high level of openness, methodological quality, and clearly demonstrated scholarly impact.

2nd place – Mgr. Martina Bolom Kotari, Ph.D. and Mgr. Jindřich Kolda, Ph.D.

NAKI Project “The Gate of Wisdom Open”

The second prize was awarded to a project that applies the principles of openness with exceptional consistency in the humanities. The committee valued the breadth and diversity of open outputs—ranging from scholarly publications and databases to methodologies, maps, and audiovisual content—and their accessibility to the research community, students, and the general public. The project sets a high standard of openness in a field where this is still not common practice, while delivering significant cultural, educational, and scholarly benefits. Particular recognition was given to the scope of the open outputs and their usability across institutions and projects.

3rd place – Mgr. Lukáš Vízek, Ph.D.

Open Research in Mathematics Education

The third prize was awarded for a long-term commitment to open research practice in mathematics education, combining high-quality Open Access publications, open methodology, and systematic transfer of research results into teaching practice. The project has a strong impact on the teaching community and on the education of future teachers, and it contributes to the development of an open and responsible research culture. The committee particularly appreciated the consistency of the approach, international collaboration, and strong emphasis on the practical applicability of results.

The awarded projects demonstrate that open science can take many forms - from technically sophisticated data outputs, through open resources in the humanities, to research with a direct impact on education. What all the awarded activities share is a commitment to making research results accessible, understandable, and genuinely usable.
