Internationalization At Home: Making Your Class Internationalization-Ready

Date of Event: 11/06/2025 09:00–12:00, Author: Lenka Badinská
Internationalization is no longer just about crossing borders. It’s about crossing disciplines, perspectives, and experiences.
In an increasingly interconnected world, INTERNATIONAL and INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCIES are no longer optional – they’re ESSENTIAL. Yet for many students, studying abroad remains out of reach. That’s where Internationalization at Home (IaH) steps in: a transformative approach that brings global learning into the classroom, ensuring every student has access to international experiences.
Whether you're new to internationalization or looking to deepen your practice, come and join us for a workshop that offers a fresh perspective and practical strategies to make your teaching truly global – right from UHK.
What Is Internationalization at Home (IaH)?
Internationalization at Home is a strategic shift in higher education that embeds international perspectives directly into the home curriculum. Rather than relying solely on mobility programs, IaH empowers educators to design courses that reflect global diversity, foster intercultural dialogue, and prepare students for a globalized workforce – all without leaving campus.
This approach moves beyond traditional output-based models (e.g., the number of exchange students) and embraces outcome-oriented internationalization, focusing on what students learn, how they grow, and the competencies they develop.
Why It Matters
- EQUITY: All students, regardless of background or mobility access, benefit from internationalized learning.
- RELEVANCE: Global perspectives enrich course content and make learning more applicable to real-world challenges.
- ENGAGEMENT: Diverse materials and intercultural collaboration boost motivation and critical thinking.
- EMPLOYABILITY: Graduates gain skills in communication, adaptability, and cultural awareness – highly valued by employers.
