International Students Bring Their Culture to Local Elementary Schools in Hradec Králové

Since February 2025, international students and ambassadors from the University of Hradec Králové have been visiting primary schools in Hradec Králové as part of a new initiative called To the World with UHK. During English lessons, they present their home countries, traditions, and everyday life. The aim is to foster international awareness, tolerance, and openness to other cultures among Czech children – especially those in the upper years of primary school.

Students from countries such as Mexico, France, Brazil, Latvia, Nigeria, and Myanmar have taken part in the project. Through interactive presentations, they introduce the geography and history of their countries, share personal stories, describe national holidays, showcase traditional foods, and play music. Presentations often include videos, photos, music samples, or even food tastings. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions and actively engage. TtwwUHK1

The project is organized by the University in collaboration with local schools, such as Jiráskovo náměstí Primary School, Pohádka Primary School, and Sever Primary School. The initiative promotes not only cultural exchange and language diversity in education, but also the personal development of the international students themselves – helping them improve their communication skills, gain public speaking experience, and strengthen their connection to the local community.

What made me happiest was when the kids asked about traditional weddings in Myanmar or what we cook for celebrations. They were curious, friendly, and I was really surprised by how well they understood English,” says Chyuu, an international student from Myanmar studying the bachelor’s programme in Information Management at UHK.

TtwwUHKInterest from schools is growing steadily, confirming that involving international students in the classroom makesreal differencecontributing to modern, open, and experience-based education.
