All Souls Day is a holy day set aside for honouring the dead. In countries with a Christian tradition, it is customary during this day or period to visit the graveyard and family grave to light a candle or to lay living flowers on it to symbolize the belief in eternal life and to demonstrate the belief that life does not end with a grave. On All Souls Day, we not only remember the dead, but we apply our efforts, through prayer, almsgiving, and the Mass, to their release from Purgatory. The celebration of All Souls' Day is on 2 November and follows All Saints' Day.
