Laboratory of Advanced Computer Graphics, FIM Esports Classroom

Purpose:

Individual work of students in teaching courses focused on high-end 3D graphics on various projects (especially focusing on courses such as Computer Graphics or bachelor's and master's theses requiring above-standard computing power of workstations).

Furthermore, FIM esports activities (training, tournaments, teambuilding of student teams).

This classroom is therefore different from other (regular) classrooms at FIM designed only for classic teaching. The interior of the classroom was designed with the intention of creating the missing ground for the esports community at FIM. At the same time, it should be sufficiently representative and attractive for students and potential prospective students from high schools, who will get to this classroom on various occasions as part of tours of the FIM building.

The faculty actively cooperated with the well-known architectural studio Gebas atelier architects s.r.o. on the design of this special classroom, as well as on the modernization of the relaxation zones of the building's interior, the modernization of sanitary facilities, and the design of the university park on the UHK campus.

As part of the implementation, for example, it was necessary to add 2 air conditioning vents, lower and repaint plasterboard ceilings and walls, modify the front wall of the classroom to a modern concrete design, while for the back wall of the classroom (with regard to the traditional Hradec Gočár architecture) an effective brick design was chosen.

The dominant feature of the room is a new lighting system, consisting of four independently controllable light parts, which can either be lit up in FIM bright blue or tuned as needed (e.g. home colors of various rival teams, faculties, etc.). The dark color of the room in combination with the new originally thought-out design of the room lighting gives the user the impression that they are sitting inside some kind of microprocessor or chip, with only the fibers of electrical circuits shining around it.

The glass partition located between the tables, dividing the room in half and separating the opposing teams, not only has a psychological and decorative meaning, but also partially isolates the two teams from each other. The dark-toned walls and ceiling in combination with the opaque retractable blinds allow players to evoke a night atmosphere in the room, for example, at noon.

Note: To enter and work in the classroom, it is necessary to register a specific time at https://imitweby.uhk.cz/esport/

The computer equipment of the room was funded by the ERDF II project, Internationalization of Education at UHK – Infrastructure, CZ.02.2.67/0.0/0.0/18_057/0013351
