Textile Design

Program Description

The study program is focused on the preservation of a living textile tradition with the use and transformation of traditional textile disciplines (pre-weaving, weaving, lace, knitting, dyeing, printing technology, embroidery).) In the creation of original clothing and interior textiles. In addition to creating author's collections, students will be guided to learn about cultural textile heritage and its popularization in educational programs in galleries, museums or open-air museums.The emphasis is laid on working with content and form of an artwork, and on working with means of expression and systems of composition. Students learn methods of stylisation, structure, and texture.

Previous Education/Experience

Completing of secondary school studies (the applicant must provide a certificate to prove previous studies, orientation on textile arts and design preferred).

Career Opportunities

Graduates of Textile Design have been trained in designing and creating original textiles, creation fashion and interior textiles. Graduates can be employed as tutors in educative centres, lecturers of traditional textile techniques.

The artistic career of graduates can be realized in the following posts: designers in the textile industry, independent textile artists and designers, members of teams of fashion and textile designers.

Graduates can also work as gallery educators, or lecturer of traditional textile techniques in galleries and museums.

Admission Requirements

Entry requirements:

• a completed application form
• a duly certified copy of an applicant's secondary school leaving certificate in English, Czech or Slovak
• a document proving the content and the scope of an applicant’s previous secondary school education in English, Czech or Slovak
• a proof of language skills to study in English**
• a signed affidavit of an applicant’s ability to cover expenses related to studies and living inthe Czech Republic

• a motivation letter (min. 3600 letters)
• CV with a relevant professional history
• the portfolio of applicant´s work related to Textile Textile Design (minimum of 12 examples)

• a copy of passport

** Applicants who graduated from English study programme are not obligated to demonstrate it; as well as applicants whose mother tongue is English.

(No additional entrance tests will be administered, no oral examination).

The Faculty of Education of the University of Hradec Králové reserves the right not to open the study programme if the minimum requirement of at least five enrolled students is not met.
