State Final Exams and Theses

Information for final years

The Completion of Studies and the Registration for the State Final Examination

Organisation of the State Final Examination for the Academic Year 2025/2026

The completion of studies is a condition for registration for the state final examination. The student can verify the fulfilment of the conditions on the IS/STAG Portal in the section Visualization of Study and Course of Study.

The student fulfils the conditions for proper completion of studies if:

  • He/she has successfully completed all compulsory subjects of his/her study program.
  • He/she has obtained at least a set minimum number of credits from each block of compulsory elective courses.
  • He/she has obtained a total number of credits equal to 60 times the number of years of the standard duration of studies (180 credits for the Bachelor's degree, 120 credits for the follow-up Master's degree).
  • All completed exams and credits are recorded in IS/STAG.

After fulfilling the conditions, the student submits a printed and signed form “Application for closing a study and registration for final state exams” (.doc or .PDF version) together with a printed and signed Enrolment Sheet - "Print registration form A for the last completed academic year, WS and SS" (ad IS/Stag Portal, Course of Study) to the Study Department. The mentioned documents (application, enrolment sheet) can be delivered to the Study Department in a printed form in person or by mail (possibly also scanned documents sent via e-mail).

  • When submitting your application to complete your studies, you can also register for the final state exams at the same time.
  • Alternatively, a student may simply complete their studies and postpone registration for the final state examination. In such a case, the student must successfully pass the state final exam or its final part within two years of completing their studies (for these purposes, the date of completion of studies is considered to be the last day of the academic year in which the studies were completed; an interruption of studies does not extend this deadline).

Please note: The last year's students will register for the final state exam subjects term (including the subject Bachelor’s/Master´s Thesis Defence) on the IS/STAG Portal after submitting the paper application.

The deadline for checking the completion of the studies (evaluation of the progress of the entire studies) and for registration for the dates of the state final examinations is governed by the Schedule of the 2025/2026 academic year (Decree of the Dean of the FF UHK No. 11/2025). The student must deliver the Application for the Completion of Studies and Registration to the Study Department by:

  • For SZZ January/February 2026 – registration according to the Schedule of the Academic Year 2025/2026
  • For SZZ May/June 2026 – registration according to the Schedule of the Academic Year 2025/2026
  • For SZZ August 2026 – registration according to the Schedule of the Academic Year 2025/2026

The student can unsubscribe from the date of the final state examination without excuse at least 14 days before the examination date.

If the student fails to come to the final state examination without a reasoned written excuse, he/she is deemed to have failed the state final exam. A written apology shall be submitted no later than five days after the examination date through the Study Department to the Dean of the Faculty, who will make the final decision about its acceptance.

The student can only complete his/her studies and postpone the registration for the state final exam. The state final exam or its final part must be passed within two years from the completion of studies (for this purpose, the date of completion of studies is the last day of the academic year, in which the studies were completed; the interruption of studies does not extend this period).

Please note: Even after completing the studies, the student is still a university student; he/she does not lose his/her student status and the time of his/her studies still runs, which may have an impact on possible studies tuition fees.

After completing the last part of the state final examination, the student has a statutory duty to report the termination of studies (e.g. to the health insurance company, to the authorities paying social benefits to the student, and others) within 8 days.
