Research Centres

At present, the faculty operates the commercial research centre CETA and several specialized sections and centres - CETA, LMS Centre, Center for Sociological Studies of Cities and Regions, Center of History of Everyday Life, Center for Digital Historical Sciences, CENT:RE

CETA

Centre of Field Archaeology at the Department of Archaeology, FF UHK

CETA is divided into three basic departments: field department, geo-informatics department and laboratory department for processing and conservation of archaeological findings. Thus the workplace is able to provide services in the whole spectrum of performed activities or according to the focus of individual workplaces and specific tasks.

LMS Centre

Centre for the Study of Language, Mind and Society

LMS Centre was established in 2009 on the basis of ESF support. The aim of the centre is to support interdisciplinary research, linking philosophy with neighbouring branches of science whose results are relevant to the cognition of the nature and laws of the human mind, human language and human society. In the spirit of the original mission of the university, we strive to overcome the considerable atomization of human knowledge and the resulting atomization of university education fields by purposefully concentrating on finding links between philosophy and other humanities on one hand, and natural and technical sciences on the other hand. For example, we want to examine the extent to which philosophical and social science views on the functioning of human society are connectable with the knowledge of special sciences such as evolutionary biology, cognitive psychology or cybernetics.

CUH

Centre of Urban History

CUH was established at the Department of Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archival Science at FF UHK and focuses on interdisciplinary research into urban issues that overlaps with Central Europe. It aims to create one of the priority research topics of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Hradec Králové.

The urban history research, which reflects state-of-the-art methodological procedures, is conducted in the field of social, political, administrative, legal, economic, religious and cultural history, it uses high-quality basics of auxiliary historical sciences and it reflects the knowledge from related disciplines such as historical anthropology, historical geography, historical demography, historiography and archaeology. In connection with the editorial activity, the research also focuses on the linguistic aspects of the sources of urban origin.

KRCD

The Section of Regional Church History operates under the Department of Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archival Science and successfully cooperates with the Bishopric of Hradec Králové, and among other activities, it participates in organizing lecture cycles for the public, organizing international and domestic conferences and publishing professional literature every year.

CIV

The Centre of Interdisciplinary Research operates under the Dean's office of the FF and brings together both domestic and foreign scientists and researchers across disciplines.

Center for Sociological Studies of Cities and Regions

The Center for Sociological Studies of Cities and Regions operates within the Department of Sociology. Through contract research, the department contributes to the university’s third mission (U3V). Contract research is tailored to the needs of various stakeholders. Students in the Sociology program are involved in these research projects, thereby gaining valuable experience in field research. The dissemination of results is contingent on the client’s requirements but also serves to enrich instruction in the Sociology program. The system for disseminating results thus links research, teaching, and collaboration with stakeholders—typically those involved in local development. The conduct of these research projects serves as a catalyst for ongoing collaboration with clients.

Center of History of Everyday Life

at the Philosophical Faculty, University of Hradec Králové (FF UHK), is a lively research platform that focuses on history "from below" – on the experiences, memories, and everyday lives of ordinary people in modern and contemporary history. In an interdisciplinary dialogue, we combine historical research with memory studies, digital humanities, life writing, and citizen science. We draw on unique personal sources—diaries, memoirs, family chronicles, and autobiographical narratives—and strive to make individual experience a full-fledged part of historical knowledge. The center is also an open space for academic researchers, regional historians, students, and the general public to meet, and it emphasizes international cooperation, the popularization of science, and the sensitive mediation of a past that is human, multi-layered, and still alive.

Center for Digital Historical Sciences

The goal of the Center for Digital Historical Sciences is to focus on digitally supported research and teaching across historical disciplines. We are building a network of people, expertise, information, content, methods, tools, and technologies designed to advance the digital historical sciences.

CENT:RE
is a research center at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Hradec Králové. Its activities build upon those of RE:CENT (Center for the Study and Popularization of Medieval Visual Culture), which was founded in 2012 with the goal of breathing a new life into the study of premodern history and infusing it with creativity and interdisciplinary collaboration. CENT:RE has expanded its focus beyond medieval visual culture and now also addresses the history of science with an emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the intersection of science and politics in the 19th and 20th centuries.
