History of the Lesák's Library

The Lesák’s Library of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Hradec Králové was founded in 1995 as a study library of the back then Department of History of the UHK’s Education Faculty. The core of the book collection was created by the bought estate of the former academic employee of the Education Faculty, doc. dr. Vladimír Lesák. The collections have been constantly expanded since then. Donations and exchanges with other institutions also played a part in the collections. The first chief administrator (historian-bibliographer) of the Lesák’s Library was PhDr. Jiří Malina.

The creation of a united faculty library as a special workplace was considered since the establishment of the FF UHK. The first initiator of the Lesák’s Library in its present form was the Dean of FF Mgr. Petr Grulich, Ph.D., thanks to whom the Lesák’s Library was created as a faculty library.  In 2013, the FF Dean Mgr. et Mgr. Pavlína Springerová, Ph.D., decided to complete the creation of the faculty library workplace by merging all reference libraries of the FF UHK departments into the premises of the Lesák’s Library. The chief administrator of the Lesák’s Library, PhDr. Tomáš Hradecký was commissioned with the library reorganization and relocation, and, together with his colleagues (doctoral students of the Historical Institute of the FF UHK), started the operation of the library in its current form. A unified catalogue for the FF was created and the library was moved to higher capacity premises (room 21170 on the ground floor of the B building), which was soon filled by thousands of new volumes previously deployed in various faculty locations. This culminated in the establishment of the Faculty Library, which nowadays serves the needs of the Philosophical Faculty of the UHK.
