V4 Project Workshop "Child at Risk"
On 16–17 October 2025, a professional workshop was held at the Faculty of Education of the University of Hradec Králové as part of the International Visegrad Fund project Child at Risk: Risky Behaviour and Mental Health of Children in V4 Countries (Project ID 22430137).
The event, organised by the Institute of Social Studies, provided a number of inspiring ideas for linking the academic environment with practice.
The workshop focused on topics related to risky behaviour in children and mental health in an international context. Communication was primarily in English, but thanks to the language skills of the participants, the discussion was also flexibly conducted in international groups in the individual languages of the V4 countries – Czech, Slovak, Polish, and Hungarian – which contributed to a deeper understanding and sharing of experiences across the region.
The V4 countries are united not only by their geographical proximity, but also by the similarity of their strategic and conceptual documents in the field of prevention. The outputs of the professional communities in individual countries cite and influence each other, which is reflected in the entire project and in the content of the workshop. Students preparing for a career as social educators thus had the opportunity to learn about the latest findings, which they will be able to implement in their future practice.
During the meeting, information from research and the results of national studies were presented, and differences in the practical approach to prevention in schools in individual countries were compared. Examples of good and problematic practices were discussed, particularly in the implementation of prevention programmes by non-profit organisations in primary schools.
A major benefit of the workshop was the active participation of students, who presented their own proposals for prevention activities to each other. These activities were tried out by participants from among students and experts from all V4 countries, creating space for constructive feedback, comparison of approaches, and inspiration for further study and professional development.
We would like to thank all participants for their active involvement and look forward to continuing our cooperation within and beyond the project.
