About Us

The Department of Physics provides education for future physics teachers for primary and secondary schools and also educates future physicists in the fields of "Physical measurements and modelling" and "Physical-technical measurement and computer science". Department staff is also engaged in basic and applied research as well as in the care of young talents in physics.

The Department of Physics deals with theoretical physics (especially the applications of mathematical methods to experimental data, the theory of quantum graphs and energy transfer in photosynthetic systems), as well as applied physics, where the primary concern of the Department of Physics is the construction of sensors for various uses (in medicine, transport and Smart Cities) and solid state physics.

Department staff and students also participate in another important mission of the department, which is to care for young talents in physics. The Department of Physics of the Faculty of Science of UHK is the seat of the Central Commission of the Physical Olympiad, which guarantees this top-level competition, announced by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Physics students can also engage in traditional popularizing events organized by the department.

In addition to bachelor's and master's programs, the department is entitled to award the degree Doctor of Natural Sciences (RNDr.) on the basis of the student's successful passing of the doctorate viva voce examination and also offers the opportunity for students to pursue a Ph.D. in the area of the didactics of physics. The Faculty of Science also has habilitation rights in the field of Didactics of Physics.
