The Faculty of Science has celebrated its double anniversary

Author: Kristýna Vávrová

In 2020 ten years have passed since the establishment of the Faculty of Science of the University of Hradec Králové. However, due to the unfavorable epidemic situation, it was not possible to celebrate this anniversary. Only a year later, on a symbolic date of 10 November 2021, the Faculty of Science finally commemorated not only its tenth, but also its eleventh anniversary.

At the beginning of the social event, the first duly elected dean, doc. RNDr. Pavel Trojovský, Ph.D., who led the Faculty of Science between 2011 and 2019, reminded the guests of the first moments and years of the faculty. Many personalities connected with the faculty came to say congartulations, among many for example Mgr. Arnošt Štěpánek, Deputy President for Education and Sports, or Ing. Jiří Seidler, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Tepelné hospodářství Hradec Králové. Professor František Petrovič, the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra (FPV UKF in Nitra) presented the Dean of the Faculty of Science UHK Jan Kříž with a silver medal of FPV UKF in Nitra as an expression of collaboration and partnership between the faculties.

A special award was presented to RNDr. Jitka Kühnová, Ph.D., historically the first chairwoman of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science of the UHK, for her fundamental contribution to the development of the faculty, especially in the field of legislation. RNDr. Jitka Kühnová, Ph.D. led the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science of the UHK for 9 years, until 2020, and she remains its member.

The Czech boys' choir Boni Pueri, led by choirmaster Marek Štilc, prepared a cultural programme for the evening. Especially for that occasion they presented their version of Gaudeamus Igitur.

I think the Faculty of Science has gone a long way in the course of 10 years, which is a really short period in the life of such an institution. From the faculty created by 'renaming' five departments of the Faculty of Education, today we can see a proud institution presenting its scientific results. The path towards this point has not always been easy, so the more bound to continue this path to success we should feel. In a last year´s report by the International Evaluation Panel, we can read that the Faculty of Science is a very young faculty that is just gaining wings to fly. I am convinced that our faculty does have wings already. Now we must fly in the right direction. I wish you all a successful and happy flight!
