65th Annual Physics Olympiad at the Faculty of Science, UHK

From March 12th to 15th, the 65th annual national round of the Physics Olympiad, Category A, was held at the Faculty of Science, University of Hradec Králové. This prestigious event attracted 42 of the most talented high school students from across the Czech Republic. Selected based on their exceptional knowledge and previous achievements, the participants competed in solving complex problems across various fields of physics.

The Physics Olympiad was ceremoniously opened on Tuesday, accompanied by the musical ensemble from J. K. Tyl Gymnasium. On the following day, the competitors delved into challenging theoretical problems spanning a wide range of physics disciplines. In addition to intellectual challenges, a cultural program featuring a tour of Hradec Králové's historic center was organized for the participants, led by Dr. Hodný, an experienced educator from J. K. Tyl Gymnasium, providing fascinating insights into the city.

Wednesday shifted focus to the experimental part of the competition, where contestants studied the surface tension of an unknown liquid, a task specifically utilizing 3D printing technology. This innovative approach emphasized creativity and practical applications of theoretical knowledge.

After thorough evaluation by the Central Committee of the Physics Olympiad, the results were announced, honoring the top ten performers. The award ceremony took place on the final day of the competition, with the mayor of Hradec Králové among those presenting the awards.

Congratulations to all participants! We eagerly look forward to the selection camp to be held at the Faculty of Science, UHK, under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Kříž, chairman of the Physics Olympiad. From this camp, the top five contestants will be selected to represent the Czech Republic at the International Physics Olympiad, the world’s oldest physics competition, founded in 1967 with contributions from the Czech Republic. This year's edition will be held in Iran, with the Czech team already invited to participate.

Overall, the 65th edition of the Physics Olympiad at the Faculty of Science University of Hradec Králové, not only affirmed the high level of physics education in the Czech Republic but also the inspirational power of the competition, which brings new challenges and opens doors to future discoveries in the natural sciences.

Thanks to the efforts of organizers, educators, and the students themselves, the Physics Olympiad is not only a test of their abilities but also a celebration of science and the quest to learn more about the world around us. We would like to once again congratulate all participants of the 65th Physics Olympiad and wish them success in upcoming competitions and all future academic and professional endeavors.

The Physics Olympiad exemplifies how young people, with enthusiasm and determination, can overcome complex tasks and develop their potential, forming the foundation for progress in science and technology globally.
