University Facilities

Library

The University library moved to the new campus site in 1997 and the students enjoy its modern environment. The library holds over 280.000 volumes (7000 added each year). One third of the library funds are available on shelves, where you are able to read, and to look for the books and journals which you need to borrow. The library computer system will help you find the materials you require and the staff at the enquiry desk are always available to help with any problems you might have. An important part of the library is the multimedia study room where everyone has access to encyclopaedias, dictionaries, and other study materials provided on CD-ROMs. Personal computers are provided for word processing and Internet connection. There is also a café for relaxation in the same building.

Computer Facilities

FIM offers its students seven computer laboratories, currently with more than 160 personal computer. All computers are inter-linked via a network and there is a full Internet connectivity available from any computer. Regarding the software, there is a wide choice of operating systems, office applications, programming languages, large databases, graphics and CAD packages, decision support and simulation software as well as expert systems. Moreover, there is one computer laboratory especially dedicated to the students of our English programs.

The information systems department also operates the services centre where the students can easily use copying and printing facilities. The staff here will give advice on all aspects of computing at FIM.

Sports Facilities

The University provides opportunities to participate in sports as diverse as swimming, rock‑climbing, floorball, canoeing, aerobics and skiing. Moreover, many sporting events are organised during the weekends and so you can, for example, easily go skiing to nearby mountains or to join another group of students for rafting. All activities are organised by qualified staff who are available to coach from beginner to expert stages. It is an ideal opportunity to learn new activities.

Hradec Králové itself offers many opportunities for active sport life and leisure. There are many indoor as well as outdoor sports centres and numerous sports clubs available here. The newly reconstructed municipal swimming pool, which offers a wide range of activities, is among the most popular.
