The institute prepares students in the study programme and field of study accredited at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Hradec Králové:
1. Philosophy – Philosophy and Social Sciences (full-time three-year Bachelor`s degree programme)
and the following study programmes and fields of study accredited at the Faculty of Education of the University of Hradec Králové:
1. Primary School Teacher Training in Civics (full-time five-year Master`s degree programme) – not to be reopen
2. Secondary School Teacher Training in Social Sciences (full-time five-year Master`s degree programme) – not to be reopen
3. Pedagogical Specialization in Social Sciences focused on education (full-time three-year Bachelor`s degree programme) – to be open in 2008
4. Primary School Teacher Training in Civics, consequential Master`s degree programme (see 3) – to be open in 2011
5. Secondary School Teacher Training in Social Sciences, consequential Master`s degree programme (see 3) – to be open in 2011
The Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences also participates in the teaching of so-called joint basic for educational study programmes of the Faculty of Education and further noneducational study programmes provided by the Faculty of Education or the Faculty of Arts of the University of Hradec Králové.
The Institute`s characteristics
The Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences not only does adress the extensive philosophical base but also ethics, logic and other social sciences. The interests range from the history of philosophy to the contemporary philosophy, and include topics such as methodology of social sciences, social philosophy and political philosophy, ontology, philosophy of education.
Ethics originates particularly from philosophic presumptions, and basis, is concerned with both, history of ethic theories and established and contemporary issues in ethics. Particular attention is paid to social ethics, environmental ethics or moral ecology, professional ethics.
Logic includes principles of formal logic for humanities, informal logic emphasizes the theory of argumentation; students can improve argumentation skills at seminars or outside those during “discussing”.
Presently, we are preparing the accreditation of a new Bachelor`s degree programme in the field of sociology and we are making an effort to extend the accreditation of a full-time study of Philosophy and Social Sciences by a distance study programme.
The main part of the studies takes place in a modern building in Hradecká Street, in which the University library, computer rooms, and the multimedia reading-room are also located. The audio-visual aids and e-learning technologies are available. Adjoining, the new buildings of the Regional Science Library and the Faculty of Informatics and Management are under construction.
