Founded in 2005, the Chamber Orchestra of the university represents an important part of the academic cultural life. The orchestra consists mainly of students of the Department of Music (Faculty of Education), among the orchestra´s members are also students of conservatories, academies of music arts, young graduates as well as outstanding amateur musicians.
The orchestra performs regularly in all important concert halls of Hradec Králové, it receives numerous invitations to give concerts in other places in the Czech Republic, and it occasionally tours abroad.
The repertoir of the orchestra is very rich and covers all periods and many genres: it comprises "traditional" compositions of classical music including pieces by contemporary composers, film music, various arrangements, etc. Moreover, the orchestra accompanies acknowledged professional musicians, e.g. J. Stivín, B. Matoušek, H. Jouzová, P. Plášil, and it cooperates with actors, choirs and with a dance company.
Mgr. Jaromír Křováček, the founder and artistic director of the orchestra, a violinist with rich experience in solo as well as orchestra playing, is a senior lecturer at the Department of Music, Faculty of Education, where he teaches violin playing, improvisation, and orchestra play. Mr. Křováček works systematically with youth and raises young enthusiastic musicians at the university and at the music school Na Střezině in Hradec Králové.
