Doc. RNDr. Josef Hynek, MBA, Ph.D., was appointed Rector of the University of Hradec Králové on May 30, 2008.
Josef Hynek was born in 1965. He read theoretical cybernetics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. In 1991 he joined the Faculty of Education in Hradec Králové as an assistant, and in 1993 he was one of the founding members of the Faculty of Informatics and Management. In the same year he won the British government scholarship Excalibur and studied the MBA programme at the University of Hull. In 1998 he received his Ph.D. in theoretical informatics from Charles University , and in 2002 he habilitated at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague in information management.
He has been coordinating four major international projects and has participated in many more. In the recent years he has worked as an expert of the European Commission for the evaluation of Leonardo da Vinci programme projects. In 2001 he was awarded the Marshall Memorial Fellowship and in 2008 he was one of the 89 personalities that were presented in Carolyn Jones´ book Heroes Happen Here.
In addition to scientific and pedagogical work, Josef Hynek is engaged in management and organizational activities. Within his twenty-year existence at the University of Hradec Králové and its individual parts, Josef Hynek held numerous crucial functions: vice-dean for student affairs in 1995-1997, vice-dean for science and development in 2002, dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Management in 2002-2008.
Josef Hynek is the fourth rector in the history of the University of Hradec Králové. His hobbies are travelling, cycling and swimming.
