Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics offers the following degree programmes: the BA Financial and Insurance Mathematics, the BA Mathematics in Education degree programme and two MA degree programmes: Teaching Mathematics for Upper Levels of Primary Schools and for Secondary Schools.

Within the first BA degree programme, the students are introduced to the application of mathematical methods in banking and insurance. The BA Teaching Mathematics degree programmes are the first step to obtain the teacher´s qualification for primary and secondary schools. Graduates of the BA teaching degree are strongly encouraged to pursue their studies in the follow-up MA degree programmes realised at the department.

As for research activities of the department, the academic staff concentrates on research in the areas of optimization and non-smooth analyses, algebraic and elementary theory of numbers, application of fuzzy sets and fuzzy numbers and, last but not least, the didactics of mathematics.

The Department of Mathematics comprises the section for primary schools teachers’ preparation, the section of mathematics and the didactics of mathematics, and the section of applied mathematics.
