The
Department of Technical Education offers the BA Essentials of Technology
in Education degree programme and the follow-up MA degree programmes
Teaching Essentials in Technology for Upper Levels of Primary Schools and for Secondary Schools.
The BA degree
programme covers all fundamental aspects of mechanical and electrical
engineering, and it is structured primarily as a preparation for the
follow-up MA degree programmes. Within their graduate studies, students
acquire the knowledge and skills crucial for planning education
programmes and for the instruction of technically oriented subjects at
primary and secondary schools. These subjects would comprise work with
technical materials, design and construction, household operation and
maintenance, food preparation, work with laboratory equipment, use of
digital technologies, etc.
The Department
of Technical Education organizes an annual international conference
Modernization of Technical Education Instruction in Tertiary Education,
focused on the most recent outputs of the research in technical
subjects’ development, innovation in technically oriented study
programmes, trends in didactics, effective work with information, etc.
Research activities of the department include machine technologies,
machine construction, measuring and processing of signals in
electrotechnology, and acoustics in classrooms.
The academic
staff cooperate with the Department of Special Education (Faculty of
Education) in the area of ergotherapy. The Department of Technical
Education participates in several research projects with other
technically related departments and faculties of Czech universities;
international cooperation involves universities in Slovenia and in
Slovakia.
