The
Department of Slavonic Studies offers a wide range of programmes for
applicants interested in Russian and Polish linguistics, literature and
culture. The department realizes the BA degree programmes Russian in
Education and Russian in Tourism, and the follow-up MA degree programmes
Teaching Russian for Upper Levels of Primary Schools and Teaching
Russian for Secondary Schools. Within the department operates the
Cabinet of Polish Studies that offers a six-semester non-teaching
specialization Polish course. Applicants interested in Polish can also
pursue a four-semester Polish Language in Administration course. Both
courses are realized within the courses of the Institute of Further
Education. The department provides courses of Russian for students of
other departments.
Apart from
teaching, central to the life of the department is both linguistic and
literary theory research. The linguistic research is focused on
exploration of language layers, comparative linguistics, ,
psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics. The literary research deals
particularly with Russian prose and poetry at the turn of the century,
with the theory of artistic translation and with intercultural dialogue.
The department is also active in didactic research, examining mainly
current issues of Russian linguo-didactics and theories of foreign
language textbooks.
The department
emphasises the importance of international contacts, and it maintains
numerous connections with universities in foreign countries (Slovakia,
Ukraine, Russia, Germany, and Austria). Members of the department
organize a yearly international conference Dialogue of Cultures.
