The Department of Auxiliary
Historical Sciences and Archival Science offers the BA Joint Honours
Archival Science–History degree programme and the BA Single Honours
Multimedia in Archival Science degree programme. Both programmes are
offered in full-time and part-time form of study.
Students
of the first programme get acquainted with the fundamental areas of
archival science, history and auxiliary historical sciences. Emphasis is
also put on the students´ knowledge of German and Latin – foreign
languages that are necessary for historical research in the region of
central Europe. This study programme, however, is open to absolute
beginners in these languages as well.
The BA Multimedia in Archival
Science degree programme combines the instruction of established
historical sciences with modern information technologies and the latest
findings of other exact sciences. Students have the opportunity to work
in a specialized laboratory that is equipped with the latest technology,
and they spend the practice part of their studies in various archives
and institutions. Graduates have excellent job prospects, as they are
equipped with outstanding overview of traditional archival sciences and
other historical sciences, and at the same time they have comprehensive
knowledge of information technology and its use in historical research.
Due to the interdisciplinary character of the programme, the instruction
in individual courses is carried out by the members of the department
and by the academic staff of other departments and faculties of the
university (Institute of History, Faculty of Science), as well as by
experts from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and by
specialists from museums and archives.
